According to German pronunciations, most English-speaking nations have been saying the name ‘BMW’ wrong

Only those who are familiar with the German language or visited Germany before can confirm that the letter ‘W’ is pronounced in a different way from how we say it in the English language. Thus, the letter ‘W’ is correctly pronounced as ‘Vee’ when calling the name of the popular German automaker, BMW. What’s more interesting is how not just English speakers alone but many other native speakers of Dutch, Spanish, Turkish, Chinese, and French pronounce the name “BMW” differently. You can listen to each one as provided on the official BMW website via this link -> BMW pronunciation.

How to pronounce ‘BMW’ in the German language

Many English-speaking countries also call the name of other German carmakers like Porsche differently. For example, a native English speaker would probably call it ‘Porsh’ whereas German speakers will correctly pronounce the name as ‘Por Shuh’. Quite interesting, isn’t it?

There are also many popular nicknames that English speakers call BMW cars; nicknames like ‘Beemer’, ‘Beamer’, or ‘Bimmer’. Even in China, the ‘BMW’ brand is popularly called ‘bao-ma’ which means ‘precious horse’. We could guess you didn’t expect that, did you?

In any case, the most important thing is that people should know which brand you are referring to. Once the people around you understand that you are referring to a BMW car, we believe you don’t need to take extra German class at this point. That was on a lighter note though, German classes can be a good idea if you have the time to spare.
